Day's become shorter, temperatures & allergens change, and the stress of the holidays take charge! As fall arrives both our skin and environment go through noticeable shifts. Here's what to expect & how you can better adapt to these changes:

Cooler Temperatures & Lower Humidity

Air becomes crisp, cool and drier.

(especially indoors when heaters are running)

= Loss of hydration causing flakiness, itchiness and dull texture

Circadian Rhythm & Sunlight (most overlooked!)

Decrease in sunlight and shorter days mean reduced Vitamin D & serotonin levels. One of the skins major functions is to absorb & convert Vitamin D to fuel our body, mood and cellular repair (Ever notice you feel more energized and happy during warmer months?)

Shorter days and longer nights also affect our body's internal clock (Circadian Rhythm) which regulates sleep, hormones, digestion, mood and cortisol levels and slows down drastically come winter.

= Lackluster skin, sluggish circulation, dark circles, breakouts

Air Quality

Seasonal pollen, dust & mold.

= Increase in sensitivity, rashes, flare-ups & breakouts

Holidays

Holidays and festivities bring both comfort, and stress (cortisol). Theres more on our overwhelming to-do list, leading us to just "scratch that itch" and reach for rich foods & sugar loaded treats. This need to "reward" ourselves & feel all the "seasonal" vibes can cause inflammation and a weakened immune system.

= Weight gain, puffiness, breakouts, sluggish circulation, lack of nutrients

With these often overlooked changes, our skin, body & mood become more vulnerable.

Let me Explain

Our skin is affected by both our internal and external environments and I care about your wellness-

I often compare our skin to our car's dashboard. How do you know something is off or wrong with the car? Your dashboard lights up and alerts you-- same goes for our skin, it's a dashboard showcasing our bodies overall well being.

It's no doubt that dryness, breakouts, puffiness, irritation, lack luster skin is a symptom of the changes we're upon and your skin will be one of the firsts to show you!

Here are 7 tip's to support your skin & body

as it recalibrates during this time:

Reminder: Our body affects our skin, our skin does not affect our body.

Light

Let the morning light be the first thing that your eyes see before looking at your phone.

Sun setting? Then it's time to dim the lights!

As your eyes and skin absorb this natural light, it will help your body's natural clock.

(change the brightness setting to warm tones on your devices, blue light is toxic)

Hydration

Opt for warm beverages. I'm not talking about Pumpkin spiced lates .. I'm speaking tea's.

This not only comforts but will help digestion, organ function, hydration and warming up from the inside out. Tea's also provide many benefits depending on which one you select. Warm lemon water is great too! It's important to stay hydrated during the cooler months!

Cold beverages and foods = sluggishness

Avoid Sugar, Alcohol

I know.... It's difficult! But both sugar & alcohol are addictive and causes inflammation in the body, Inflammation contributes to disease & weak immunity. It also disrupts our hormones and triggers breakouts (again inflammation). It can spike our blood sugar and affect sleep as well. It causes glycation accelerating cellular aging.

Avoid Hot showers

Excessive hot showers strip our skins protective barrier causing tightness, itchiness and flakiness. Find a happy medium! Lightly pat dry and apply a nourishing, unscented moisturizer.

Sleep

your body needs good quality sleep. keep it consistent. Set a sleep schedule (preferably rise and set with the sun- again circadian). Sleep allows our body to regenerate, repair and restore! it's sacred time so make it a healthy priority.

Incorporate Lymphatics

Our lymphatic system plays a big role with our immune system. It helps protect our body against disease and illness. It's independent from our circulatory system meaning manual movement is necessary to avoid lymph stagnation. Having a stronger immunity will protect you from common cold's and flu's this time of year. Incorporate daily intentional movement. Dr.Perry's BIG 6 is a great reference for a daily lymph exercise. it's a nonnegotiable for me!

Book A Facial

It's not just a foo-foo facial, it's real wellness.

Seem's kind of silly right? Wrong! When you receive a facial from me, I'm not only addressing your cosmetic concerns, but I'm working with all the underlying structures, tissues and systems that are affected by these seasonal changes.

I'm releasing tension in your fascia and muscles, working with the bones, moving lymph, resetting your nervous system and creating more space and circulation that allows blood & nutrients to be delivered to the skin. Improving tone, hydration, texture and function. Balance.

It's intentional, methodical & therapeutic. It allows your body to relax and enter a parasympathetic state. It's an all around re-set. I encourage you to make some time for yourself, book an appointment and support your well being!
